THE "FEMI-LEGI"

The "Femi-Legi" will change the history of American education.  They are legislators, candidates and staffers who unite together to seriously discuss the abject failure of current educational policies. They come in all varieties - progressive/conservative, Republican/Democratic, Caucasian/Black/Latinex/Asian.

What ties the diverse group together is the common knowledge that our children are flailing due to current educational policies; they possess a courageous and relentless spirit to turn over every single stone until solutions emerge.  "Every child is my child" is their rallying cry. They burn with the desire to smash the achievement gap and open up unlimited learning for every single student.  Rather than outsourcing the difficult work to school people, they are willing to roll up their sleeves, fight in the trenches and get their hands dirty. Many have decided to adopt a class for an entire year and work with the classroom teacher until every student cracks the code and breaks the barriers.

In their discussions they ask questions that are not typically raised these days in educational discourse: How do we make it easy for teachers and students to work hard? How do we bring back hope and a victorious spirit back to our schools? How can we bring every single parent - both rich and poor - back into the education tent? How can we make sure teachers leave school every single day humming a happy tune? How can the community become a force to elevate the educational enterprise?  And, most importantly, how do we make sure change happens this Monday morning in Ms. Smith's classroom?

Men are welcome to join with the Femi-Legi but only if they identify with a pain of a mother seeing her child to come home with cynicism on the face and the sparkle missing from the eyes.
